SF Environment is dedicated to promoting cleaner, sustainable transportation. We envision a San Francisco where using a car is the exception and where convenient, carbon-free mobility options are readily available and used regularly by residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors.
Our programs are aimed at reducing the number of cars on our streets (especially single-occupancy vehicles), reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing our dependence on petroleum, and improving air quality for all of the City’s residents. Programs like Commuter Benefits and Emergency Ride Home facilitate the use of alternative transportation, and the Clean Fuels program provides infrastructure, supportive policy, and information about how to convert from gas to cleaner alternatives.

San Francisco is habitat for 800,000 people – meeting needs for space to work, play, and learn; for food, water, and air; for community with local flora and fauna. SF Environment provides support for urban agriculture and forestry and green buildings, helping residents and businesses harness environmental opportunities.
