APPOINTMENT TYPE: Permanent Exempt (PEX), this position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.


The 1824 Climate Resilience Program Lead for the Office of Resilience & Capital Planning (ORCP) will manage and coordinate a collaborative, multi-agency effort to align and integrate ongoing and future climate plans, policies, and projects in order to strengthen the City's climate resilience. The Climate Resilience Program is an umbrella effort to coordinate planning, communications, and public engagement of the City’s various programs, policies and projects relating to climate resilience. In San Francisco, climate resilience includes both climate mitigation strategies to decrease citywide greenhouse gas emissions in line with adopted climate commitments, and climate adaptation strategies to make the city more resilient in the face of climate-related hazards such as drought, floods, poor air quality, extreme heat, and rising sea levels.

The position will serve as a central point of contact to align and integrate existing and future Climate Resilience efforts the greatest extent possible. The position is responsible for working with multiple agencies to coordinate and ensure consistency in approach, messaging, and engagement across these efforts. The Program Lead will work collaboratively across City agencies to develop a set of shared Climate Resilience strategic priorities and goals that serve as the foundation for stronger alignment and integration of future efforts. The Program Lead facilitates meetings, develops work plans, provides technical guidance and best practice research, and delivers materials to support the City’s varied Climate Resilience efforts.


  1. Develop, manage, and maintain a work program to help align and integrate the San Francisco’s Climate Resilience efforts;
  2. Convene the multi-agency Climate Resilience core team and partner agencies, and serve as primary Climate Resilience point of contact for other city agencies and external stakeholders;
  3. Develop an integrated climate resilience communications strategy and associated materials;
  4. Lead development of strategic policy, funding, and implementation strategies relating to climate resilience;
  5. Advise and act as a resource to the City Administrator, Chief Resilience Officer, and Directors and senior managers from other core agencies on climate resilience policy issues;
  6. Performs related duties as assigned.
