Clean Fuel Policies

Local
Environmental Code, Chapter 4:  Healthy Air and Clean Transportation Program
Among other directives, use alternative fuels with a low carbon impact and encourage the creation, expansion, and maintenance of alternative fueling infrastructure in the City and at City facilities. 

State
Low Carbon Fuel Standard
Program requiring all transportation fuels that are sold, supplied, or offered for sale in the state to have a carbon intensity reduction of at least 10% by 2020.

Federal
Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) Program
Regulates the increase in volume of renewable fuel that is blended into transportation fuels. 

Clean Vehicle Policies

Local
Environmental Code, Chapter 4:  Healthy Air and Clean Transportation Program
Among other directives, promote the use of vehicles that have no or low emissions.

State
Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) Standards
Regulate maximum exhaust emissions for vehicles of Model Year (MY) 2004 and subsequent model year passenger cars, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty passenger vehicles. 

Vehicle Acquisition and Petroleum Reduction Requirements
State owned or leased vehicles that are capable of operating on alternative fuel must operate on that fuel, unless the alternative fuel is not available.

Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Production Standards
Manufacturers with annual sales greater than 60,000 vehicles must produce a minimum percentage of ZEVs for sale in California. 

Federal
Emission Standards for New Motor Vehicles or New Motor Vehicle Engines
Standards will be established and updated periodically regarding the emission of any air pollutant from any new motor vehicles or new motor vehicle engines, which cause, or contribute to, air pollution that endangers public health or welfare.
