Don't mix-n-match.

Don’t mix fruits and vegetables – they spoil each other. Some vegetables and fruits will last longer if stored on their own:

  • Store potatoes and onions separately. Gas from onions causes potatoes to sprout.

  • One bad apple spoils the bunch. Over-ripe fruit accelerates the ripening process of the fruit near it. Separate out bruised fruits. If they're not too far along, slice off the browned parts, and make a sweet compote or fruit crumble.

  • Break bananas apart to increase their counter life. The first banana to brown causes others in the bunch to ripen with it. Separate the bunch to increase air flow.
