Plan your meals.

Meal planning is one of the simplest things you can do to save money. Get in the habit of planning your meals before you shop, so you use what you have and buy just what you need. Try these meal planning tips:

  • Plan meals around the most perishable items you already have.

  • If you're using a recipe, check the ingredients and quantity needed, and see what you have at home. Try replacing some ingredients with what you already have.

  • Have a plan B for ingredients you get, in case you don't have time to make a specific recipe or dish.

  • Running out the door? Take a picture of your fridge so you know exactly what you have.

  • Plan for lunch too! When you plan beyond dinner, you can maximize the food you buy so nothing goes to waste.
