Press Releases for Urban Forestry

Policy, education, coordination, and information sharing

Trees are a vital component of the ecosystem - especially in a city. They filter stormwater, reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases, help save energy, increase property values, provide wildlife habitat, improve public safety, and benefit human health. San Francisco’s urban forest includes about 669,000 trees, covering 12 percent of the City's surface area.

For a limited time, the San Francisco Department of the Environment and Friends of the Urban Forest are offering live, potted trees for the holidays. San Francisco residents can temporarily adopt beautiful three-to-six-foot-tall magnolia, olive, or primrose trees to bring home for decoration and enjoyment.
