San Francisco Environment Department

Education and Equity

Overview
To build capacity in every community, SF Environment embraces the concept of environmental justice, the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people—regardless of race, ethnicity, income or education level—in environmental decision-making.

Racial Equity
SF Environment is actively working to eliminate racial inequities both within the Department and the programs, policies, and services we create and implement that affect the communities we serve.

Environmental Education Program
SF Environment provides free, award-winning programs and curriculum to all PK-12 public and private schools in San Francisco.

Green Jobs
The green economy is alive and thriving in San Francisco, and SF Environment is forging the path to a more economically viable, socially just, sustainable city.

Environmental Justice
SF Environment supports community projects that promote healthy homes, clean air, and food security.  We support local initiatives to reduce climate change and address health disparities in low-income neighborhoods.

Zero Waste Grants
The Zero Waste Program awards grant funding to non-profit organizations whose work in source reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting helps San Francisco reach its goal of zero waste.
