Commercial Buildings - Metrics (Energy Star, LEED) - Green Building

Just like appliances, buildings can get an Energy Star label by scoring 75 out of 100 in energy efficiency. In San Francisco, there are 309 Energy Star labeled buildings that cover 87 million square feet of the City! Find Energy Star rated buildings in San Francisco with US EPA's Labeled Plants and Buildings Map.

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) has certified 101.5 million square feet of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) buildings in San Francisco as of March 2016. To learn more, check out the USGBC's Green Building Information Gateway. For raw data from the USGBC (which yields less comprehensive statistics because it omits projects that keep their certifications private), visit the LEED Certified Projects Directory

Taken together, CBRE's 2015 National Green Building Adoption Index reported 70% of leasable floor area in San Francisco is green (with LEED or ENERGY STAR certification, or both).
