Departamento del Medio Ambiente de San Francisco

Setting Up Your Home Recycle and Compost Service

The Mandatory Recycling and Composting Ordinance requires all San Franciscans to properly separate recyclables, compostables, and landfill trash. Failure to comply may result in liens, fines, and other fees.

Homeowners: For curbside recycling and composting services, contact Recology at (415) 330-1300. Special rate and service are available for elderly and/or disabled residents.

Renters: Renters are entitled to composting and recycling services at their property. If your building does not have recycling or composting service, call SF Environment at 415-355-3700 or fill out an anonymous report form. SF Environment will contact your property manager to help set up recycling and composting.
