Commercial Buildings: Shedding Some Light on the SF Commercial Lighting Ordinance

If you own a commercial building in San Francisco, you probably already know about the Commercial Lighting Ordinance, which requires that fluorescent lighting in non-residential commercial buildings meet a specific efficiency standard. Non-residential commercial building owners are required to upgrade inefficient linear fluorescent lamps with magnetic ballast to meet specified minimum illumination output standards and to replace 4-foot and 8-foot linear fluorescent lamps with more efficient lamps containing low mercury content standards. These standards are most typically met with linear fluorescent T-8 lamps with electronic ballasts.

Financial Incentives Available for a Limited Time!

The SF Energy Watch program can help you comply with the Commercial Lighting Ordinance by offering financial and technical assistance.  SF Energy Watch offers free comprehensive energy efficiency services and financial incentives to commercial buildings for energy efficiency upgrades.

Incentives are available now but are due to expire in 2012, so upgrade before the incentives are all gone! The program, funded by California ratepayers, is a partnership between PG&E and SF Environment.
