Policy, Incentives, and Resources
Buildings define the urban environment of San Francisco and much of the community’s environmental impact. Recognizing this, San Francisco has created a comprehensive set of policy initiatives and incentive programs to improve the performance of new and existing buildings, which are regarded as among the most forward-thinking and effective policies in the world.
San Francisco is habitat for 800,000 people – meeting needs for space to work, play, and learn; for food, water, and air; for community with local flora and fauna. SF Environment provides support for urban agriculture and forestry and green buildings, helping residents and businesses harness environmental opportunities.
