Sustainable Commuting

Programs and incentives for reducing transportation-related carbon emissions
What We Do
SF Environment provides programs for businesses and commuters that reduce time, cost and hassle on travel to and from work and school. Our goal is to decrease region-wide congestion and greenhouse gas emissions by offering a variety of mobility options.
What You Can Do
No matter where you live or work, you can enjoy the benefits of economical, healthy, and green transportation. The key is finding which option (or combination of options) works for you to get to work, the grocery store, or a special event.
Business Programs
Does your company want a cost-effective and simple way to enhance your recruitment and retention of talented employees? Commuter programs help employees save money while decreasing congestion and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. SF Environment provides free assistance to local businesses.
CCSF Programs
SF Environment offers a variety of commuter programs to City and County of San Francisco employees. Our goal is to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and help you save time and money on your commute!
Driving Impacts
Traffic congestion levels in the United States have continually increased over the past 30 years. Congestion has several effects on travelers, businesses, agencies and cities, the most significant element being the economic and social costs of longer travel times, wasted fuel and stress.

Commuter benefit programs are employer-provided benefits that allow employees to reduce their monthly commuting expenses for transit, biking, vanpooling and parking.

The Emergency Ride Home program provides a ride home if a personal emergency ever strikes. Anyone working in San Francisco can participate, and the ride is free.

Sharing your ride to work is called ridesharing. Sharing the ride with just one other person can cut your commuting costs. SF Environment and 511 can match you with others who want to share a ride to the same destination.

Bicycling is a low-cost, healthy, and sustainable commute choice. SF Environment encourages bicycling in the city by ensuring access to parking in commercial buildings and managing a shared bicycle fleet for City and County of San Francisco employees.
