LEED Fellows represent green building industry’s most accomplished professionals

San Francisco, CA (11/20/2013) – The U.S. Green Building Council today elected Mark Palmer of The City of San Francisco’s Department of the Environment to the 2013 class of LEED Fellows. The LEED Fellow Program is the green building industry’s most prestigious professional designation. The LEED Fellow designation recognizes exceptional contributions to green building and significant professional achievement within the rapidly growing community of LEED Professionals.

Palmer was among 51 of the world’s most distinguished green building professionals to be selected this year as LEED Fellows through a peer nomination and portfolio review process.  Palmer’s LEED AP BD+C credential, over 20 years of green building experience, and extensive portfolio including such exemplary projects as Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, California Academy of Sciences, and Terminal 2 at San Francisco International Airport comprise a few of his outstanding qualifications.

"We are thrilled to present these highly accomplished individuals with the LEED Fellow designation," said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, USGBC.  "The Fellows are some of the leading innovators and vanguards of the green building movement, and their bodies of work strongly underscore their commitment to LEED and a sustainable built environment."

"Mark’s exemplary leadership has helped make green building the norm in San Francisco," said Melanie Nutter, Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment. "His contribution to prominent attractions such as the California Academy of the Sciences, the largest public Platinum-rated building in the world, showcase how our city has made green building a top priority."

"Mark has successfully led city-wide technical discussions and driven policy decisions that have made San Francisco a leader in green building," said John Updike, San Francisco’s Director of Real Estate. “He has been a catalyst among City staff, pushing forward cutting edge green building legislation that serves as a model for cities across the nation."

Mark Palmer will be recognized with the rest of the 2013 LEED Fellow class at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Philadelphia this month.  For more information on the LEED Fellow program, please visit this website.
