[Response to Proposed Amendments to Article 16 of the Public Works Code File Number 170985]

Resolution urging the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor to adopt File Number 170985, an Ordinance amending the Public Works Code to implement voter passed Proposition E of 2016, with an amendment to increase the number of times San Francisco Public Works must report to the Urban Forestry Council from once per year to two times per year.

WHEREAS, The Board of Supervisors formed the Urban Forestry Council to protect the community interest and ensure that San Francisco realizes the full range of tree benefits into the future; and,

WHEREAS, The Council is charged with guiding the stewardship of San Francisco's trees by promoting a healthy and sustainable urban forest that benefits all San Franciscans while ensuring public health and safety; and,

WHEREAS, The Council has continually advocated for the establishment of a dedicated funding source to support the City’s urban forest; and,

WHEREAS, Proposition E was passed in the 2016 to dedicate $19,000,000 annually in funding to maintain street trees and related sidewalk damage; and,

WHEREAS, Proposition E funds San Francisco Public Works Bureau of Urban Forestry to maintain all street trees; and,

WHEREAS, San Francisco Public Works Bureau of Urban Forestry has sponsored amendments to Article 16 of the Public Works Code to reflect Proposition E legislation changes; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the Urban Forestry Council requests amending the proposed changes to Article 16 of the Public Works code to include an increase in the number of times San Francisco Public Works reports to the Urban Forestry Council to one annual report in August and an executive summary in January; and be it
