City Planning 2009 Arbor Day Events to Celebrate Tree Care and Planting Signature event to feature tree plantings, maintenance, children's activities; rain barrel harvesting training and more.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--During the second week of March 2009, San Francisco will host a number of events and volunteer activities to celebrate Arbor Week, a citywide celebration of tree care and planting.
The signature event for Arbor Week will be Saturday, March 14th, when hundreds of volunteers will plant several hundred trees in a reforestation effort along the City's Sunset Boulevard. The day's events will emphasize the importance of tree care and future maintenance, and include a Green Resource Fair, children's activities, music, and food. All events are free.
Up to 500 volunteers and community leaders are expected to participate.
Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance, established in 1872, that encourages tree planting and care. It is celebrated by states and cities at different times in the year according to the region's best tree-planting season, with California celebrating in March.
