Residents living in low-income neighborhoods face major barriers to obtaining affordable, healthy, and nutritious food. We support community efforts to improve food security and increase access to fresh produce.

SEFA's Food Guardians Project

Southeast Food Access Working Group (SEFA) is a project of Shape Up San Francisco, led by Department of Public Health to address chronic diseases. SEFA is a partnership of public agencies and community groups to improve access to healthy, fresh and affordable food in the Southeast area of the City.

Community Gardens

The Environmental Justice (EJ) program is strengthening communities and promoting food security by helping local residents develop and maintain urban gardens and school garden education projects.

Partners - Environmental Justice

SF Environment promotes food security by providing technical assistance and grants to community garden projects, focusing on the Southeast area of the City. We've established collaborative partnerships with several non-profit groups that are establishing "green" spaces and developing local food systems.
