San Francisco Environment Department Regulation #SFE-24-01-CDO was adopted on May 22, 2024. The regulations detail the processes that SFE inspectors will use to enforce Environment Code Chapter 14 as applicable to collection and transport of construction & demolition debris. Regulation #SFE-24-01-CDO replaces Regulation #SFE-23-01-CDO.
These regulations apply to any Producer participating in a Stewardship Plan for Unwanted Covered Drugs, as defined in the Safe Drug Disposal Stewardship Ordinance (Environment Code Chapter 22), or the Operator of a Stewardship Plan acting on behalf of a Producer, which has been approved by the Director of the Environment Department.

Starting July 1, 2020, stores must charge at least 25 cents per checkout bag (previously 10 cents). Checkout bags include those provided for takeout and delivery. Stores must offer an acceptable checkout bag to customers. All single-use, conventional plastic checkout and pre-check out bags are prohibited.

Starting July 1, 2019, the law restricts the distribution of single-use plastic straws, including compostable plastic straws. Food and beverage vendors may no longer provide the following single-use plastic accessories: plastic beverage plugs, plastic cocktail sticks, plastic stirrers, and plastic toothpicks. This law also applies to event producers and retailers operating in San Francisco.
