Safe Drug Disposal Stewardship Ordinance


The San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed the Safe Drug Disposal Stewardship Ordinance (PDF) on March 17, 2015, with an Effective Date of April 25, 2015. The Ordinance factsheet (PDF) provides additional information on the background and requirements of the Ordinance.

Public Comment Period for Revised Product Stewardship Plan

The Department of the Environment is seeking comments from the public on MED-Project's revised Product Stewardship Plan, dated January 31, 2018. The 30-day public comment period begins March 16, 2018 and ends April 16, 2018. More information on the public comment period and how comments should be submitted is included in the linked Notice of Public Comment Period below. 

Ordinance Implementation

Medicine collection kiosks are now operational under the MED-Project stewardship program at 31 locations, with additional kiosks expected to be installed throughout 2018. Mail-back envelope distribution locations, where San Francisco residents may pick up a free, prepaid mail-back envelope, and take-back events are also available in supervisorial districts where the convenience standard is not currently met.
